The Lost Seedling | Moral story | English story | Short story | Hindi story

Once upon a time, in a lush green village nestled amidst the rolling hills of India, there lived a kind and elderly farmer named Panditji. He was known for his wisdom and love for nature. Panditji spent his days tending to his bountiful fields and caring for all living beings with utmost compassion. His heart would fill with joy seeing the crops grow and the animals flourish under his care.

One monsoon, as the rains poured down, the village rejoiced, for they knew it would bring prosperity and abundance. During the rainy season, Panditji would always set aside a special day to plant seeds that he had collected over the years. These seeds held a magical legacy; they were passed down through generations and were believed to bring good fortune and happiness to those who nurtured them.

On this particular day, as the raindrops danced merrily, Panditji set out to plant the precious seeds. But as he was walking towards the field, he noticed a group of playful children running and giggling through the mud. Among them was a young boy named Raju. Raju was known for his mischievous nature, and though he had a good heart, he often found himself causing trouble for others.

Panditji smiled at the sight of the children enjoying the rain but was worried that they might trample on his newly planted seeds. He called out to them, "Children, come here! These fields are not a playground. They are meant for the seeds to grow into strong and healthy plants. Please be careful and avoid stepping on them."

Raju, however, was too engrossed in his play and paid little attention to the elder's advice. The other children, too, didn't fully grasp the importance of Panditji's words, and they continued their merriment without much concern.

Days passed, and the rain continued to bless the land. Panditji was delighted to see his fields gradually turning into a sea of green, with tiny saplings sprouting from the seeds he had planted. But as he walked through the fields, his joy turned into sorrow as he noticed a small patch where no seedling grew. It was the same area where the children had been playing that day.

Panditji's heart sank, for he knew that one of his precious seeds was lost due to the children's playfulness. He didn't scold Raju or the other children; instead, he decided to turn it into a valuable lesson.

The next day, Panditji gathered the village children near the field. He gently told them the story of the lost seedling and how every seed he planted was meant to bring happiness and prosperity to the village. He explained that every action, no matter how small, had consequences, and even unintended mistakes could lead to unfortunate outcomes.

Raju felt remorseful for his actions and apologized to Panditji. The other children, too, learned the importance of respecting nature and the efforts put forth by others to bring prosperity to the community.

With forgiveness and understanding, Panditji led the children to the area where the lost seedling should have grown. He then took a new seed, placed it carefully in the ground, and asked Raju to water it every day.

As the days passed, Raju fulfilled his duty with utmost dedication. He watered the seed every morning and evening, and soon, a tiny green sprout emerged from the soil. Raju's eyes gleamed with joy and pride as he saw the seedling grow stronger each day.

The village was filled with admiration for Raju's transformation, and the news of the lost seedling and the valuable lesson Panditji imparted spread like wildfire. The children became more conscious of their actions, not only in Panditji's fields but also in their everyday lives.

The lost seedling became a symbol of responsibility, forgiveness, and second chances. Panditji's fields flourished, and the village prospered. But more importantly, the hearts of the children blossomed with kindness and respect for all living beings.

Moral: Every action, no matter how small, has consequences. Respect nature and value the efforts of others, for it is through responsibility and understanding that we sow the seeds of a prosperous and harmonious life.
