The Wise Elephant and the Mischievous Monkey | Moral story | English story | Short story | Hindi story

Once upon a time, in a dense and enchanting forest, lived a wise and majestic elephant named Gajendra. He was known far and wide for his intelligence, kindness, and unwavering sense of justice. Animals from all corners of the forest sought his advice whenever they faced a dilemma or needed guidance. Gajendra was respected and loved by all, except for one mischievous troublemaker - a crafty monkey named Bandar.

Bandar was notorious for his cunning tricks and playful mischief. He was always seeking opportunities to create chaos and confusion among the animals. He envied Gajendra's popularity and craved the same level of attention. One day, Bandar hatched a devious plan to tarnish Gajendra's reputation and prove himself superior.

One sunny morning, as the forest animals gathered around Gajendra to seek his wise counsel, Bandar saw his chance to execute his wicked scheme. He climbed to the top of a tall tree, where he could observe everything happening below without being noticed. When it was his turn to seek advice, Bandar pretended to be deeply distressed.

"Oh, noble Gajendra," Bandar whimpered, "I am burdened by a great dilemma. My dear friend Koyal, who lives across the river, is gravely ill. I want to visit her and offer my help, but the river's current is strong, and I fear I will drown if I attempt to cross it. Please, wise Gajendra, guide me on how to overcome this perilous situation."

Gajendra looked at Bandar with concern and replied, "My dear friend, I understand your worries, but crossing the river is not an impossible task for someone as agile and nimble as you. However, I must caution you to be careful. Plan your steps wisely and consider your safety above all else."

Bandar pretended to be thankful for Gajendra's advice and then quickly rushed back to his hiding spot on the tree. He giggled to himself, feeling triumphant, as he thought that he had fooled everyone with his act. Little did he know that Gajendra, with his keen perception, had noticed the wicked glint in Bandar's eyes.

The next day, Bandar returned to Gajendra with another supposedly troubling situation. "Oh, wise Gajendra," he said, "Yesterday, I tried to cross the river to visit my friend Koyal, but I failed. The current was too strong, and I almost drowned. Your advice did not work, and I am still in distress. What do you have to say now?"

Gajendra calmly replied, "Bandar, I find it hard to believe that you followed my advice sincerely. Crossing the river requires patience and determination. It seems that you sought to cause trouble rather than genuinely seeking help. Remember, deception may grant you temporary attention, but it will never earn you true respect and love."

Bandar was taken aback by Gajendra's astute understanding of his mischievous intentions. Embarrassed and guilty, he realized that his deceptive ways had only led to his own downfall. He felt a deep sense of remorse for trying to tarnish Gajendra's reputation, and a newfound respect for the wise elephant grew in his heart.

From that day on, Bandar decided to change his ways and learn from Gajendra's wisdom. He began to be honest and helpful towards others in the forest. As he mended his mischievous habits, the animals gradually accepted him as a genuine friend.

The moral of the story: Honesty and sincerity will always triumph over deception and mischief. True respect and love are earned through integrity and genuine actions, not through cunning tricks or deceitful acts.
